So today we’re going to be talking about how long it takes to get a pharmacy technician license. I have three things I want to share with you, okay. Let’s assume that you don’t have a tech trainee license but you’re just going to get certified and you want to get your official pharmacy technician license.
The first thing that you’re going to do is a study for the exam. The next thing that you’re going to do is sign up for the exam on the PTCB website. It does not take long as you can finish it in one day. Then you’ll sign up for your location then you’ll have to get your fingerprints taken, your driver’s license was taken and another form of identification. From there you set up the date you will take the exam. If you pass then that’s great, amazing actually.
In between now and then you need to allow yourself two to three weeks to get your license in the mail, or get your certification from the PTCB board. But you also have to make sure that you’re certified with your state and that they know you passed the exam. As each state has different rules about how they go about that. You need to check on those rules and if you want specific state rules, we have information on that on our website at pharmacytechlessons.com.
Now the second thing that I want to mention to you is why it takes so long to pass the exam. It could take two weeks to study for the exam and it could take two years. The bulk of people usually study for the exam two weeks before. But for the people who study for two years, well it could be for several reasons. One of the main reasons why is that they never really know when they should go ahead and take the exam and when to stop studying.
Another main reason as to why it takes longer is because they are a procrastinator. They start studying for a couple of days and then they stop studying for three days. Then they start back again because they get convicted and they know they need to study, and then they stop studying again for 5 days. So over time of this habit, you’re never really going to build up the confidence to want to take the exam and pass it.
The last main reason is that they don’t have the right information when studying and along with them not having the right information. What’s worst is if they did have the right information but they did not study it correctly. That’s another reason that can expand the time frame of why it takes so long to get a license. It’s all revolved around the way they study and their method of studying for the PTCB exam.
So the third thing that I want to talk to you about is the process, okay? A lot of people don’t have the process when they’re going in studying for the PTCB exam. If you do not have a process, then you need to make one. If you failed the exam already then you need to make your process according to what your weak points were. If you haven’t taken the PTCB exam, then you need a clean slate process. You just need a pretty much fit all process and a process that is set according to your weaknesses.
If you are terrible in math, well then your process needs to have quite a bit of math in it so that you can complete that portion of the exam and you can make a high grade on that portion of the exam. Your process is so important!
An example of why it is important is that it’s like baking a cake. There are directions on the back of the box where the process of successfully baking a cake is. If you miss one of the ingredients or if you don’t do it quite in the right steps, you’re most likely not going to get the ideal cake that you would have liked to make or the ideal cake that you see illustrated there on the box.
So it’s important to have a process, I mean just imagine if you didn’t mix the cake, right? So you just threw all the ingredients in a bowl and then you looked at it and said “you know this is okay”. So you dump it in a pan and put it in the oven. Well, the cake is not going to come out correctly because the process wasn’t done correctly.
